916 Introducing a New Guideline for the Fifth Metatarsal Fracture (5th MTF)

Abstract Background The 5th MTF is a common injury occurring in the long bone joining ankle to toes. This can be categorised into two main sub-sections, namely green zone fractures (GZF) and red (RZF) which are treated differently. Moreover, patients suffering from uncomplicated GZF discharged directly emergency department (ED), whereas complex cases require review orthopaedic doctors. Due time-restraint ED, some might misdiagnosed/referred fracture clinics unnecessarily. Aim Increase ED-led management discharge of Method A QI was introduced implement new guideline update patient information leaflet at ELHT. For each set baseline data, an intervention suggested achieve goal this project ensure safe ED. Results During four-week study period, 20 presented ED with fracture, 40% were demonstrates improvement 12.7% 27.3%. In addition, 80% these managed walker boot, as mentioned guideline. total, only three clinic appointments booked, due complications, opposed twenty appointments. resulted saving £1.835,4. Conclusions has led 50% care. plan benefits improves efficacy well clinics.
